NEW FACES

Debra Fournier has been named chief operations officer of Maine Veterans’ Homes.

Fournier has more than 25 years of experience in the health care industry, most recently serving as vice president of elder care services and administrator for St. Mary’s Health System in Lewiston. Fournier previously served as director of nursing at the veterans facility in Scarborough from 1990 to 1996.

Shari Broder, an arbitrator and mediator in Freeport, has joined the University of Southern Maine as a teacher.

Broder will be teaching employee relations at USM’s Lewiston-Auburn College for the spring semester. The course is part of the college’s leadership and organizational studies program. It is open to public enrollment.

Broder was also recently re-elected to a third term as president of the Freeport Community Library Board of Trustees.

AWARDS and RECOGNITION

Sen. Susan Collins received the 2010 Pope Leadership Award from the Hospice of Southern Maine. The award is named for Dr. Katherine Stoddard Pope, a founder of the hospice.

Collins is a strong advocate for funding for home care and hospice services. She was also instrumental in the passage of the Home Health Care Planning Improvement Act.

Kappa Mapping of Bangor was recognized by MAPPS Geospatial Products and Services for its entry, “Tenants Harbor Buoy Counting Project.”

The team used photogrammetry to inventory the number of buoys marking lobster traps in Tenants Harbor.

Paula D. Silsby, former U.S. attorney, will serve as chairwoman of the state’s Campaign for Justice.

The campaign brings together lawyers throughout the state to raise funds for six civil legal aid providers in Maine: the Cumberland Legal Aid Clinic, Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project, Legal Services for the Elderly, Maine Equal Justice Partners, Maine Volunteer Lawyers Project, and Pine Tree Legal Assistance.

Silsby, of Portland, served as U.S. attorney from 2001 to 2010.

Noelle Miliard was named to the Next Generation National Security Leaders’ Class of 2010-11 by the Center for a New American Security.

Miliard, of Cape Elizabeth, is program coordinator for space activities at EADS North America in Washington, D.C.

Miliard will work with representatives throughout the capital and contribute to writing projects with the goal of promoting U.S. national security policies.
