Wescott heads U.S. team at world championships

Two-time Olympic gold medalist Seth Wescott of Carrabassett Valley will lead the U.S. snowboarding team into the world championships Saturday through Jan. 22 in La Molina, Spain.

He will be joined by Olympic silver medalist Lindsey Jacobellis of Stratton, Vt., and six-time X Games gold medalist Nate Holland of Squaw Valley, Calif.

Wescott headlines a seven-member snowboardcross contingent that begins competing Tuesday. He had a second-place finish in a World Cup event last month at Telluride, Colo.

“We’ve only raced this course one time last spring,” said U.S. Coach Peter Foley. “We kind of tried to recreate the start in our training course in Telluride, so we spent a lot of time on similar features. … I’m hopeful that will pay off.”
