Liam is a 5-year-old neutered greyhound-pointer mix. He redefines gentle and submissive and needs a new owner who will gradually build his confidence. His new home should be quiet and cat-free. Children should be older than 10. A fenced yard at his new home will be important to prevent his running in fear and getting lost.
When happy and excited, he sneezes – very cute! Liam is on lifetime medication for Addison’s disease. Since there is no cure, new owners will need to continue the medication and monitor Liam’s condition.
Mary Jane is a 5-year-old, short-haired, gray and white spayed cat. Before she landed at the ARL, Mary Jane – unspayed – was on the streets trying to defend herself while also suffering from an infected uterus.
Mary Jane took a while to adjust to new situations here. Over time, she has learned that with a constant routine, it is OK to trust a human or two. If you are interested in providing a home for Mary Jane, please contact Sarah Ashe at 854-9771 or at sashe@arlgp.org.
The Animal Welfare Society in West Kennebunk has had such strong cat adoption numbers since introducing the fee-waived program for cats 6 months and older that it has partnered with both the Coastal Humane Society in Brunswick and Greater Androscoggin Humane Society of Lewiston to find homes for a dozen of their cats.

Lizzie, a 2-year-old white cat, is not only a gorgeous gal, but also quite the attention hog. If you’re not petting her, she’ll follow you around until you are. And once she’s getting attention, she has no qualms about giving just as much back. She’ll climb on you and kiss you in return. She’s rather curious and seemingly has to “approve” of everything that goes on around her. She enjoys having cat trees, and people, to climb on.
