AUGUSTA — The Maine Senate today gave unanimous approval to Sawin Millett of Waterford to serve as commissioner of the state Department of Administrative and Financial Services.
Millett, a former Republican lawmaker, drew praise from Democrats and Republicans during brief remarks made in the Senate prior to the vote.
Millett is the first of Gov. Paul LePage’s Cabinet-level nominees to make it through the confirmation process.
This afternoon, three more nominees will get hearings before legislative committees. Bill Beardsley of Ellsworth is before the Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Committee; Philip Congdon of Round Pond is before the Labor, Commerce, Research and Economic Development Committee; Norman Olsen of Cherryfield is before the Marine Resources Committee.
