Back for his eighth game since recovering from a heel injury, center Trent Whitfield played seven seasons in Portland when the Pirates were affiliated with the Washington Capitals.

PIRATES NOTES: Portland has won three of four games against the Bruins. RW Mark Mancari, the team’s leading scorer, has a nine-game points streak, the longest of the season for the Pirates. LW Dennis McCauley, who started skating on the top line last weekend, has points in seven of his last eight games.
