The 90-year-old Mousam River Bridge on Route 1 in Kennebunk should be completely removed by mid-February, and its replacement should be finished by this fall, according to the Maine Department of Transportation.

MDOT Public Information Officer Mark Latti said bridges are only expected to last about 75 years, so a new bridge was long overdue.

During construction, drivers are being detoured to a temporary bridge connecting Brown and Water streets.

Kennebunk Town Manager Barry Tibbetts said there were a few problems with signs and lighting when the project started, but those have been resolved.
