AUGUSTA — Little if any opposition has surfaced to Walter Whitcomb as the Waldoboro dairyman faces a legislative review on his nomination to become the commissioner of Maine’s agriculture department.

The Committee on Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry takes up Whitcomb’s confirmation review this afternoon.

The former Republican floor leader in the Maine House is expected to win committee support and Senate confirmation to the post.

Meanwhile, another of Gov. Paul LePage’s Cabinet nominees, David Bernhardt, has been sworn in as acting commissioner of the Department of Transportation. Last week, LePage nominated the Bernhardt to the commissioner’s post fulltime. The appointment of the career DOT official has also drawn no vocal opposition.
