Maine Sabers semipro franchise reforming, rejoining 15-club Eastern Football League

The Maine Sabers Football Club, once a playoff contender in the Eastern Football League nearly 16 years ago, is being reformed, organizers said Friday. An informational meeting will be held today at noon in the Gold Room Grill at the Portland Sports Complex.

Steve Goodrich, part of the Maine Red Claws ownership group, is one of the principals behind the return of the Sabers, along with Jason McLeod, an assistant football coach at Windham High. Both men were involved in the original Sabers team in the early 1990s.

The Maine Sabers were admitted to the 15-team Eastern Football League last week. For further information, contact Goodrich or McLeod at mainesabers@hotmail.com.
