GIRLS’ BASKETBALL: Natalie Metzgar scored 18 of her 26 points in the first half as Southfield (10-5) raced out to a 19 point halftime lead and cruised to a 54-32 win over Berwick Academy (2-13) in South Berwick.

The Bulldogs were led by Nicole Kleinmann with 10 points.

HOCKEY

QMJHL: Cole Hawes and Francis Beauvillier each had a goal and an assist to lead the Lewiston Maineiacs to a 6-0 win over the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles at Lewiston.
Andre Makarov had 25 saves for Lewiston.

FREESTYLE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS: Simon Dumont of Bethel earned 43.2 points on his first run to claim bronze in the halfpipe in Park City, Utah.

Michael Riddle won gold with 45.6 points on his first run. Kevin Rolland took silver with 45.2 points on his second run.

MEN’S WORLD CUP: Hannes Reichelt won a super-G race in Hinterstoder, Austria.

Reichelt ran the course in 1 minute, 43.91 seconds to beat Benjamin Raich by 0.34. Bode Miller of the United States was the fastest starter before finishing 0.93 back in third.

WOMEN’S WORLD CUP: A giant slalom race was postponed until today because of strong winds.
