BETHEL — The Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is seeking volunteers for a project to help identify and survey wildlife habitat in four northwestern Maine communities.
The Mahoosuc Land Trust, the Androscoggin River Watershed Council and Maine Audubon will be working with Inland Fisheries and Wildlife to identify significant habitat such as wetlands, wildlife corridors and deer wintering areas in Bethel, Gilead, Newry, and Woodstock.
The work will include field observations and some tracking.
The Sun Journal newspaper says a report by the Mahoosuc Trust says another town or two could be added to the survey if there is sufficient interest from volunteers.
A training session is scheduled for Friday at the Mahoosuc Land Trust office on U.S. Route 2 in Bethel.
