BRUNSWICK — Lee V. Gimbel, 87, died Feb. 10 at the Brunswick Senior Health Care Center.

Born in Heaton, N.D. on Feb. 8, 1924, a son of John and Theresa Leiske Gimbel, he spent his youth in western Canada and graduated from College Heights in Alberta, Canada.

He later graduated from Walla Walla College in Washington with a degree in business administration.  

On Sept. 14, 1950, he married Mary Toop. They were married for 52 years until her death in 2002.

He spent his career in hospital financial adminstration, and was employed at hospitals in California, Illinois and in Canada before being hired by Parkview Hospital in 1959 as chief financial officer, a position he held for many years.

A lifelong loyal member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, he served in numerous roles at the church, including deacon, elder, church treasurer and was involved in establishing the Pine Tree School in Freeport.

His hobbies included vegetable gardening, snow and water skiing, auto repair, and spending time with family and friends at his camp on Tacoma Lake.

He is survived by three sons, Dr. Gregory L. Gimbel of Brunswick, John G. Gimbel of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Jere R. Gimbel of Calgary, Alberta; a brother, Lloyd Gimbel of Stettler, Alberta, and a sister, Madella Toop of Ottawa, Canada; and three grandchildren.

Memorial services were held last week.

Arrangements are by Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal St., Brunswick.
