BANGOR — Justin Murray was unstoppable Saturday, scoring 30 points as fifth-seeded Winslow upset fourth-ranked Medomak Valley 64-58 in an Eastern Class B boys’ basketball quarterfinal at the Bangor Auditorium.

The Black Raiders (16-3) will meet top-ranked Camden Hills (19-0) in the semifinals at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Auditorium.

Murray hit five 3-pointers to help Winslow maintain a small advantage for most of the second half.

The Panthers tried to stop Murray with a 1-3 zone chaser, putting one player exclusively on Murray, but he was too quick.

“They shot the lights out tonight,” said Medomak Valley Coach Nick DePatsy.

“When a team gets hot and a kid gets hot, it’s very tough. We were trying to stop him in the front and back, but he was just hot.”

Mike McCann added 10 points for Winslow.

John Murray led the Panthers with 26 points, going 6 of 6 from the foul line. Alex Greenrose had 10 points.

John Murray scored 12 points in the first six minutes of the fourth quarter as the Panthers, who entered the quarter trailing 43-38, pulled within two points with 2:24 remaining.

But then Justin Murray sank a pivotal 3-pointer with two minutes left.

And after Medomak Valley (14-5) got within one point with 18 seconds remaining, Justin Murray made 3 of 5 free throws to put the game away.

Murray sank 5 of 7 3-pointers and went 13 of 15 from the line for Winslow, and he was especially consistent down the stretch.

He also encouraged his team, as well as the vocal Black Raider fans.

Murray said his team was excited about the victory against the Panthers, particularly after losing to them during the regular season at home.

“We came out fired up. We lost in the preliminaries last year,” said Murray, a quick 5-foot-8 point guard.

“I’ve been struggling (on 3-point shots) lately. I was feeling it tonight.”

After Winslow came out slow, trailing by three after the first quarter, the Raiders pulled ahead by five points in the second quarter with the help of two 3-pointers and six free throws from Murray.
