WATERVILLE – The Colby women’s basketball team advanced to the semifinals of the New England Small College Athletic Conference tournament, holding off Middlebury for a 67-64 victory Saturday.

Rachael Mack (26 points, 12 rebounds) hit two free throws with 1:36 left to put the second-seeded Mules (21-4) ahead 64-59. The seventh-seeded Panthers (15-9) closed to within 66-64, but Mack made 1 of 2 from the foul line to ice the win.

UNE 82, NICHOLS 41: Margo Russell had 15 points and Carrie Bunnell scored 14 as the Nor’easters (19-6, 12-1 Commonwealth Coast) blew past the Bison (11-13, 5-8) at Biddeford.

ST. JOSEPH’S 66, MOUNT IDA 62: Ashley Geel had 26 points and eight rebounds to lead the Monks (17-8, 9-3 GNAC) over the Mustangs (9-16, 5-7) at Newton, Mass.

EASTERN CONN. STATE 60, USM 53: Courtney Cochran had 25 points and 13 rebounds for the Huskies (16-9, 11-3 Little East) in an overtime loss against the Warriors (18-7, 11-3) at Willimantic, Conn.

AMHERST 77, BATES 61: The third-seeded Lord Jeffs (22-2) pulled away from the sixth-seeded Bobcats (12-13) in the NESCAC quarterfinals at Amherst, Mass.

EASTERN CONN. STATE 73, USM 69: The Warriors (17-8, 10-4 Little East) made 3 of 4 free throws in the final 28 seconds to hold off the Huskies (10-15, 2-12) at Willimantic, Conn.

Chris Pagentine led the Huskies with a game-high 17 points.

ST. JOSEPH’S 80, MOUNT IDA 74: Zach O’Brien scored four points in a 7-0 run that gave the Monks (18-7, 15-3 GNAC) a 79-72 lead with 26 seconds left, as they edged the Mustangs (9-16, 6-12) at Newton, Mass.

NICHOLS 80, UNE 76: Ryan Sheehan had 30 points as the Bison (7-17, 4-9 Commonwealth Coast) held off the Nor’easters (4-21, 2-11) at Biddeford.

WILLIAMS 82, BOWDOIN 62: The top-seeded Ephs (24-1) hit 13 3-pointers in a victory over the eighth-seeded Polar Bears (14-10) in the NESCAC quarterfinals at Williamstown, Mass.

Randy DeFeo had 14 points for Bowdoin.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

MIDDLEBURY 4, BOWDOIN 2: Kayte Holtz had a goal and an assist for Bowdoin (14-8-2, 9-6-1 NESCAC) in a loss to Middlebury (18-4-1, 14-1-1) at Brunswick.

COLBY 4, WILLIAMS 1: Senior Stephanie Scarpato collected her 100th career point as the Mules (9-15, 5-11 NESCAC) downed the Ephs (4-16-1, 3-12-1) at Waterville.

MAINE 3, BOSTON U. 2: Jennie Gallo scored 1:51 into overtime as the Black Bears (12-16-5, 6-12-3 Hockey East) upset BU (25-5-4, 15-3-3) at Orono.

SALVE REGINA 3, USM 2: The Seahawks (10-12-3, 9-7-2 ECAC East) overcame a 2-1 deficit to beat the Huskies (7-15-2, 5-11-1) at Middletown, R.I. Erin Barfield and Christen Hart scored for USM.

WESLEYAN 14, UNE 1: Matt Del Giudice scored for UNE (6-18) in a loss to the Cardinals (9-11-3) at Middletown, Conn.

USM 3, TRINITY 3: Mike Carpenter, Dan Rautenberg and Dustin Rider scored for the Huskies (7-12-5, 5-11-3 ECAC East/NESCAC) in a tie against the Bantams (11-9-4, 9-8-2) at Hartford, Conn.

BOWDOIN 3, NEC 0: Rob MacGregor and Owen Smith scored power-play goals in the second period and Richard Nerland made 20 saves to lead the Polar Bears (15-7-1) past New England College (7-16-2) at Henniker, N.H.

COLBY 5, ST. ANSELM 2: Tom McGinn had two goals as the Mules (11-10-2) beat the Hawks (10-11-2) at Manchester, N.H.

MAINE 7, TENNESSEE STATE 3: Meghan McLain hit a three-run homer in the sixth inning as the Black Bears (1-2) rallied past the Tigers (4-3) at Lafayette, La.

LOUISIANA-LAFAYETTE 9, MAINE 0: Christina Hamilton pitched a three-hitter to lead the Cajuns (8-0) over the visiting Black Bears (1-3).

Dagmar Ralphs, Terren Hall and Kirstin Allen had Maine’s hits.
