Theater classes for children
Starting Thursday, the Merrymeeting Arts Center, 9 Main St., will offer theater classes for children with teacher Brooke Thompson.
Sessions for ages 2 to 4 will meet from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Cost is $40 for 10 weeks or $5 per session. Classes for ages 5 to 8 will meet from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Cost is $80 for 10 classes or $10 per class. For details, call 710-0349.

Concert to benefit library
The band Martin England & the Reconstructed will play a concert benefiting South Berwick Public Library at 8 p.m. Saturday at Spring Hill, 117 Pond Road.
Tickets are $12 at the door or $10 in advance and available at the library, Abby Chic Florist, Ear Craft Music of Dover, N.H., and at all Bull Moose Music locations. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.

Country concert for troops
The York County Veterans Alliance will host a benefit for the troops at 1 p.m. on Saturday at 24 Bradbury St., featuring the music of Rog and Ric of the Patio Cowboys, with guest drummer Steve Hamblen and performances by Bobby LeRawding and Bill Giasson.
Admission is by gift or cash donation at the door. Proceeds will be used to purchase and ship gifts to military troops overseas. The concert is sponsored by the Pine Tree State Country Music Association. For more details, call Joan Cole at 490-1232.
Lectures on world politics
The University of New England Department of Political Science Student Club will host two lectures by Ahmed Samatar.

The Georges River Land Trust will sponsor a free winter walk on the Canal Path with Registered Maine Guide Mike Shannon from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
