AUGUSTA — Maine’s snowpack, ice conditions and stream flows are normal for this time of year, but officials in Augusta say the flood potential is high because warmer weather and rain are expected this weekend.

The River Flow Advisory Commission today looked at factors including short- and long-term weather forecasts, stream flow, river ice and snowpack to formulate its predictions.

The National Weather Service says a storm could bring significant rain to central and southern Maine. With temperatures in the 40s or 50s and significant rainfall Sunday and Monday, it could spell street flooding and stream or river flooding. The stream flows could also raise and move river ice, possibly causing ice jams.
