Bangor High rallied to beat Cheverus 58-49 and win the Class A boys’ basketball state championship Saturday night at the Augusta Civic Center.
The Rams (21-1) captured their first Gold Ball since 2007 and avenged a loss to the Stags (21-1) in 2008.
The Stags had a one-point lead until Zach Blodgett ripped down a rebound after a missed foul shot by Pat Stewart and scored to give Bangor a 44-43 lead with 2:09 remaining.
Luke Hetterman of Bangor made 9 of 10 free throws to help the Rams pull away. Hetterman finished with 16 points.
Griffin Brady led the Stags with 21 points.
