Navy Seamen Recruits Elliott J. Comeau and Amanda L. Mathieu recently completed Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Comeau is the son of Lisa and James Comeau of Kittery and is a 2009 graduate of R. W. Traip Academ, Kittery.

Mathieu, granddaughter of Christine Mathieu of York, is a 2009 graduate of Whitinsville Christian High School in Whitinsville, Mass.

Air Force Airman Derek C. Sawyer graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Dean Sawyer of Standish and graduated in 2010 from Bonny Eagle High School, Standish.

Army National Guard Pvt. Josiah D. Knights has graduated from One Station Unit Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo. He is the son of David and Jammy Knights of Raymond.

Army Spec. Gerrett M. Cooper-McPherson graduated from the Multiple Launch Rocket System Operations/Fire Direction Specialist Advanced Individual Training course at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. He is the son of Wayne and Colleen Hall of Scarborough and is a 2006 graduate of Scarborough High School.

Army Pvt. Jeffrey A. Barnes has graduated from the Basic Field Artillery Cannon Crewmember Advanced Individual Training course at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. He is the son of Heather Barnes of Limington and Kevin Cunha of Providence, R.I.

The Forty and Eight, a charitable veterans group that was originally founded as an American Legion organization and is now independently run, holds monthly meetings on the second Thursday of each month, with the next meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at American Legion Post 35, 413 Broadway, South Portland.
