BIDDEFORD – The University of New England took control with five goals in the third quarter and defeated the University of Southern Maine 12-8 Thursday in a men’s lacrosse game.
Luke DiFiore, Michael Pennacchio, Dylan Thomas and Tyler Thomas each had two goals for the Nor’easters (2-1), who opened an 11-5 lead with the third-quarter spurt.
Kayle Hamilton had three goals and Kyle Dussault made 17 saves for the Huskies (0-1).
BASEBALL
OGLETHORPE 10, BATES 9: The Stormy Petrels (5-7) scored three runs on one hit in the ninth inning to defeat the Bobcats (2-5) at Atlanta.
Pat Murphy had three hits and two RBI, and Jake Simon had two hits and three RBI for Bates.
SOFTBALL
EAST CAROLINA 2, MAINE 0: Toni Paisley pitched a four-hitter as the Pirates (18-6) downed the Black Bears (7-16) at Greenville, N.C.
Meghan McLain doubled for Maine.
INDOOR TRACK
UMAINE: Riley Masters and Corey Conner will compete at the NCAA championships beginning today at College Station, Texas.
Masters is entered in the mile and 3,000-meter run, and Conner is seeded 14th in the women’s 5,000.
