TOPSHAM — Elmer R. Richards, 83, died March 13 at Mid Coast Senior Health Center in Brunswick.  

Born in Brunswick, July 16, 1927, he was the son of Theodore J. and Lillian M. Reiman Richards, and was educated in Brunswick schools.

In 1944 he left high school to join the military, and served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1948.  

On Nov. 19, 1949, he married Frances Pina and they settled in Brunswick, where they raised twin daughters, Christine and Cynthia.

Over the years he worked primarily as an electrician in the mid-coast area.

He enjoyed watching sports on television, especially the New England Patriots, and playing golf.

An excellent handyman, he was always tinkering with mechanical things around the house.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Frances Richards of Topsham; two daughters, Christine Carlson and her husband Cory of Reno, Nev., and Cynthia Richards of Durham; a sister, Joan Dolian of Massachusetts; and a granddaughter, Catrina Carlson of Reno, Nev.

Funeral services will be private.  

Donations in his memory may be made to Community Health and Nursing Services, CHANS, Memorial Fund, 60 Baribeau Dr. Brunswick, ME 04011.

Arrangements are by Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick.
