CAPE ELIZABETH – After a four-month search, the Scarborough Board of Education has chosen Dr. George Entwistle III to take over as superintendent of schools beginning on July 1.

The board was expected to vote to hire Entwistle at its March 17 meeting.

Entwistle, a Cape Elizabeth native, is currently superintendent of the Belmont Public Schools in Belmont, Mass.

Jo Anne Sizemore will continue serving as interim superintendent until June 30. She will return to her job as assistant superintendent for the 2011-2012 school year. The search for a new superintendent began in late 2010 when David Doyle stepped down from the position.

Entwistle, who earned a doctorate in education from Boston University in 2000, has eight years of experience in school administration in Maine. For five years he served as superintendent in Falmouth. He also worked as the assistant superintendent in Maine School Administrative District 28 in Camden. He served on the Cape Elizabeth School Board from 1996 to 2003, when he took the assistant superintendent position in SAD 28.

Chris Brownsey, chairman of the Board of Education, said Entwistle brings with him a wealth of experience.

“He has a track record of leadership experience,” Brownsey said. “He brings a mix of experience in business and school administration that will really help us in meeting our challenges moving forward.”
