Kirsten Karis had three goals and an assist to lead the seventh-ranked Colby women’s lacrosse team as the Mules raced out to a 12-0 halftime lead and cruised past Eastern Connecticut 18-3 Sunday.

Anne Geraghty added a pair of goals for the Mules (4-0), who had 15 different players score a goal in the win.

Colby scored seven goals in the first 10 minutes of the game as the Mules established a comfortable margin over the Warriors (1-3).

SOFTBALL

SOUTHERN MAINE 12, LAWRENCE 4: Katie Davis had four hits, including a two-run home run, and drove in four runs to lead the Huskies (2-4) as they cruised past the Vikings (3-6) in five innings in their second game of the day at Clermont, Fla.

Erin Swarbrick added three RBI for the Huskies, who broke the game open with a seven-run third inning.

Samantha Morse gave up four hits over four innings to earn the win for USM.

WELLESLEY 2, SOUTHERN MAINE 0: Sarah Schwartzmeyer pitched a two-hitter as the Blue (2-1) scored a pair of runs in the top of the third inning and held on for a win over the Huskies at Clermont, Fla.

USM starter Sarah Deroche walked just two batters while pitching a four-hitter.

COLBY 3, LAWRENCE 2: Lauren Becker struck out six batters while pitching a three-hitter to lead the Mules past the Vikings (3-6) in their season opener at Clermont, Fla.

Kelly Roth drove in a pair of runs for the Mules, who rallied from a 1-0 deficit with three runs in the fourth inning.

WESTERN CONNECTICUT 8, COLBY 1: Magen Dargon struck out 13 batters while pitching a six-hitter to lead the Colonials (3-1) past the Mules (1-1) in their second game of the day at Clermont, Fla.

Colby got its only run in the bottom of the sixth when Meryl Poulin scored on a single by Alyssa Lepore.

BASEBALL

MAINE 8, RIDER 3: Michael Fransoso and Ian Leisenheimer each had a pair of hits and drove in two runs to lead the Black Bears (6-15) past the Broncos (10-8) at Lawrenceville, N.J.

Fran Whitten hit a two-out RBI double and Fransoso followed with a two-run double to break a 2-2 tie in the top of the eighth inning.

Maine starter Stephen Perakslis struck out six and walked three while giving up just two hits in seven innings to earn the win.

SOUTHERN MAINE SWEEPS TRINITY: Chris Bernard threw a two-hit shutout and Forrest Chadwick doubled and scored on Mike Eaton’s sacrifice fly to lead the Huskies (5-3) to a 1-0 victory over the Bantams (3-3) in the first game of a doubleheader at Winter Haven, Fla.

Southern Maine completed the sweep with a 6-2 win in Game 2 behind two hits and two RBI from Lucas Marks.

Anthony Pisani and Bernard added two hits apiece for the Huskies and Nick Douglass gave up two runs in 5 2/3 innings to earn the win.

KNOX 8, COLBY 5: Richard Newton had three hits and Brendan Gallagher had two hits and drove in three runs to lead the Mules as they fell to Knox in their first game of the day at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Fla.

Nikolas Atsalis and Robb Arndt also finished with two hits apiece for the Mules.

In their second game of the day Colby lost 13-9 to New Paltz State.
