PORTLAND — Some Maine school districts are closing early on the first full day of spring because of Old Man Winter: Some places are expected to get a half-foot of snow.

The National Weather Service says parts of northern and western Maine could see up to 6 inches by midnight.

Meteorologist Tom Hawley says the air is colder than originally expected, so there’ll be mostly snow along the coast. He predicts 3 to 5 inches in Portland.
