‘Beauty and the Beast’

SCARBOROUGH — Students in Scarborough Middle School will be presenting “Beauty and The Beast,” April 1-3.

The students have spent the past four months preparing for their annual performance under the direction of Justin Stebbins.

Showtimes are 6 p.m. Friday, April 1; 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., Saturday, April 2; and 2 p.m. Sunday April 3.

Ticket prices are $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and students, and $13 for a family. The performance will be held at the Scarborough Middle School, 44 Gorham Rd, Scarborough.

McGarrity competes

in Maine geography bee

SCARBOROUGH — Scarborough Middle School student Aidan McGarrity was recently named a semifinalist eligible to compete in the 2011 Maine Geographic Bee.  

Geography bees were held in schools statewide that have fourth grade through eighth grade students. Each school’s geography bee winner took a qualifying test, with the top 100 scores eligible to compete at the state level.

The 2010 Maine Geographic Bee will be held at the University of Maine at Farmington on Friday, April 1.

The state winner will receive $100, a globe, and a trip to Washington, D.C., in May to represent Maine in the national finals.

O’Roak named Sea

Cadet of the Year

SCARBOROUGH — Jeffrey O’Roak, a sixth grade student at Scarborough Middle School, has received the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Portland Division’s highest award for his age group, the 2010 Sea Cadet of the Year.

The award reflects his attendance and participation in drills, advanced training activities, contributions to the unit, scholastic achievement and community service.

A Court of Honor was recently held by Scarborough Troop 39 to recognize the recent achievement of the Eagle Scout rank by three troop members, bringing Troop 39’s total number of scouts to earn the Eagle rank to 101.
