Students at Casco Bay High School in Portland hosted a naturalization ceremony for about 40 new citizens Thursday afternoon.
Students in three world language classes and an after-school program helped to plan the event as part of a learning expedition on citizenship.
Each student interviewed someone who had been naturalized. A gallery of their interviews and photos lined the hall leading to the ceremony. The students gave a specially designed commemorative mug to each new citizen.
One of the featured speakers was Hido Abdulleh, a Casco Bay High sophomore whose mother was naturalized in the ceremony.
