ACTON — Authorities have a suspect in a string of fires that were reported in the overnight hours in the same area of town.

A man who is being medically evaluated is a suspect, according to Steve McCausland, spokesman for the state Department of Public Safety.  No charges have been filed.

The case is being reviewed by the District Attorney’s Office.

The fires destroyed two houses, a pontoon, an SUV and a shed. A third house was damaged. Fire investigators believe two woods fires may be connected.

Sgt. Joel Davis of the state Fire Marshal’s Office will be providing an update at 3 p.m.

Fire Chief Ed Walsh tells WMTW-TV that the first fire was reported shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday. That fire was followed by a boat, a car and three homes all in the general vicinity.

He said about 75 firefighters from 10 departments in Maine and nearby New Hampshire responded.
The state Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.

One property owner was taken to Goodall Hospital in Sanford with cuts.
