BETHEL — A Maine man is facing a charge of escape after he allegedly bolted from a police cruiser while handcuffed following his arrest for drunken driving.

Oxford County sheriff’s deputies arrested 31-year-old Macy Jon Blaisdell of Bethel about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at a friend’s home in Newry, nearly 12 hours after he escaped from a cruiser and sprinted into some woods.

Sheriff Wayne Gallant told the Sun Journal that Blaisdell was stopped in Bethel around 1 a.m. Wednesday and arrested after failing a field sobriety test. Gallant said Blaisdell escaped when the arresting deputy turned away from him to question other people in Blaisdell’s car.
