PORTLAND — The University of New England awarded 1,247 associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees during today’s commencement ceremony, including 120 physicians from the College of Osteopathic Medicine.
The ceremony was at the Cumberland County Civic Center. Rep. Mike Michaud was awarded an honorary doctor of laws degree and delivered the university’s commencement address.

Michaud joked about a renowned Maine phrase, “you can’t get there from here,” during his address. He said many people told him that as he pursued his career in politics, but he never let that stop him.
“As you go forward, just remember to find the thing that drives you and let it guide you,” he said. “And always remember, you can get there from here if you want to.”
