A public global war on terrorism ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. today in the Hall of Flags at the Capitol in Augusta to recognize the following Mainers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the war on terror since Sept. 11, 2001:

Capt. Christopher S. Cash, Old Orchard Beach, died June 24, 2004, in Iraq.

Lance Cpl. Joshua M. Bernard, New Portland, died Aug. 14, 2009, in Afghanistan.

Pfc. Jordan M. Brochu, Oakland, died Aug. 31, 2009, in Afghanistan.

Sgt. Joshua J. Kirk, South Portland, died Oct. 3, 2009, in Afghanistan.

Spc. Wade A. Slack, Waterville, died May 6, 2010, in Afghanistan.

Staff Sgt. Brandon M. Silk, Orono, died June 21, 2010, in Afghanistan.

Staff Sgt. Eric B. Shaw, Exeter, died June 27, 2010, in Afghanistan.

Pfc. Clinton E. Springer, Sanford, died Sept. 24, 2010, in Afghanistan.

1st Lt. James R. Zimmerman, Smyrna Mills, died Nov. 2, 2010, in Afghanistan.

Cpl. Andrew L. Hutchins, New Portland, died Nov. 8, 2010, in Afghanistan.

Pvt. Buddy W. McLain, Mexico, died Nov. 29, 2010, in Afghanistan.

The soldiers will be honored by the placement of a dog tag on the bronze Battlefield Cross Statue. The statue has dog tags honoring 39 other Mainers who also died since Sept. 11, 2001.
