AUGUSTA  — Cony scored six times in the sixth inning to rally past Mt. Ararat 6-3 Tuesday in a high school softball game.

“We were a little anxious at first,” Cony’s Nicole Rugan said. “Then we got it in our heads that we were running out of time and we just needed to fix what we were doing and just pound the ball like we could. And that’s what we did.”

Shauna Williams drilled a triple to right-center field and scored on a wild pitch as Mt. Ararat took a 1-0 lead. The Eagles loaded the bases in the third on three straight singles with two outs, but Cony pitcher Emily Soule got a strikeout to end the inning.

Meanwhile, Mt. Ararat pitcher Miranda Riendeau tied up the Rams (10-2) for five innings, allowing just two hits. Second baseman Sara Rogers and left fielder Alicia Eggleston made nice plays to save runs. Williams hauled in a drive by Molly Russell near the center-field fence to end the fifth, and the Eagles also turned a 6-4-3 double play.

The Eagles (8-6) added two runs in the top of the sixth. Riendeau got her third hit and scored on a groundout, and Dana Green added an RBI double to left that made it 3-0.

Cony had only two hits entering the bottom of the sixth before Liz Barker sparked the winning rally with a two-run double that broke a 3-3 tie.
