GRAY – Gray-New Gloucester took the lead for good with four runs in the sixth inning Thursday and went on to a 7-4 victory against York in a Western Maine Conference baseball regular-season finale.

Gray-New Gloucester (10-6) is the eighth seed and York (8-8) is ninth in the final unofficial Heal point standings.

In the sixth inning, Aaron Boulos hit a two-run single, and Kevin Cavallaro and Ryan Cavallaro each singled home a run.

York scored in the first when Anthony Sciaudone came in on a fielding error.

The Patriots went ahead 2-1 in the second on a single by Brandon Merry that brought home Austin Keenan and Ben Verrill.

The Wildcats made it 2-2 in the third when Sciaudone scored on a fielder’s choice, then went up 3-2 on a groundout by Alex Mercurio that brought in Devin Merritt.

York added one more in the fifth when Chris Cole led off with a double and scored on a single by Jack Radke.

Ryan Cavallaro tripled and scored on a single by Kevin Cavallaro in the fifth to pull the Patriots within 4-3.

Cole, Tim Connolly and Ben Lawlor had two hits for York, and Boulos, Ryan Cavallaro, Kevin Cavallaro and Keenan were repeat hitters for Gray-New Gloucester.

Cole (5-3) pitched a complete game, allowing 12 hits and one walk, striking out seven.

Gray-New Gloucester starter Kyle Nielsen (7-0) gave up eight hits, two earned runs and one walk, and struck out five.

Ryan Cavallaro struck out two in the seventh to pick up the save.

LAKE REGION 16, POLAND 1: Zach Allen went 3 for 3 with six RBI and struck out six in a five-hitter as Lake Region (5-11) beat the Knights (3-13) in five innings at Naples.

Alex Hartford, Jacob Anderson and Cody Belyea each had two hits for the Lakers, who had 13 in all.

Devin Gayette had two hits and drove in the Knights’ run. 

SOFTBALL

GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 12, YORK 0: Maggie Chaplin pitched a four-hitter with seven strikeouts as the Patriots (8-8) defeated the Wildcats (3-13) in five innings at Gray.

Alex Thompson and Rachel Edson each had two hits for the Patriots. Ivy Sheehan had two for York.

LAKE REGION 4, POLAND 2: Allison Clark held the Knights (2-14) to three hits and one walk to lead the Lakers (8-8) at Naples.

Clark struck out five and also hit a triple.

Emily Symonds and Hannah Cutting hit RBI singles to give Lake Region a 3-1 lead in the third inning. 

BOYS’ LACROSSE

WESTBROOK 7, BIDDEFORD 0: Derrick Payne had three goals, Kyle Gaudreau added a goal and three assists and Kevin L’Heureux made 13 saves for the Blue Blazes (5-7) against the Tigers (1-11) at Westbrook.

MARSHWOOD 9, WINDHAM 2: Tyler Guerin, Andrew Rollins and Jeff Graunke each had two goals for the Hawks (7-5) against the Eagles (3-9) at South Berwick.

Jeff Hatheway, Shawn Foster and Justin Hockney also scored for Marshwood.
