BIDDEFORD — Residents approved the school budget during a referendum vote Thursday.

There were 190 voters who turned out, approving the $31.7 million budget by a margin of 89 votes.

Superintendent Sarah-Jane Poli said the budget calls for the elimination of 23 positions, including the Latin teacher at the high school, a number of ed techs and library clerks. The budget takes effect July 1.
