AUGUSTA — State and local police are investigating the death of a 46-year-old Augusta man found dead in his Green Street apartment before dawn Saturday, Maine State Police spokesman Steve McCausland said.

The police would not release the man’s identity because his next of kin had not been notified as of this afternoon.

McCausland said the body would be taken to the state medical examiner’s office, where an autopsy would be performed Sunday.

“At this point it’s a death which is under investigation,” McCausland said. “We’ll be waiting to hear (whether the death is considered suspicious) from the medical examiner.”

State and Augusta police were on the scene, near Hartford Fire Station, today.
