So the sun didn’t shine. But that didn’t make much difference to the car lovers who turned out Saturday for the eighth annual Back to the Beach Corvette Weekend in Old Orchard Beach.

Streets were closed to traffic at midday for a parade of classic Corvettes, including a 1971 Roadster (right) and late-model marvels that seemed to be going a lot faster than they were.

It was part of four days of socializing and automobile admiration that attracted proud Corvette owners from across the Northeast.

“We call ourselves a Corvette community,” said Elaine Kemp, a self-described Corvette ambassador and one of the event’s promoters. “There are many clubs in New England and many people who do not belong to clubs, but we all love the Corvette.”
