MINNEAPOLIS – Joe Mauer could return to the Minnesota Twins in the coming week.

The four-time All-Star and three-time American League batting champion caught for Class A Fort Myers on Sunday and was set to do the same today and possibly Tuesday, too.

Mauer also caught three straight games before getting a day off Saturday.

Mauer could rejoin the Twins on Thursday or Friday.

The Twins also plan to send designated hitter Jim Thome to Fort Myers today to start a rehab stint for his strained left quadriceps muscle.

RANGERS: Texas placed catcher and first baseman Mike Napoli on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained oblique muscle on his left side.

Catcher Taylor Teagarden was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock.

Left-hander Matt Harrison left his start at Minnesota after being hit by a line drive above his pitching elbow, resulting in a bruised triceps muscle.

TIGERS: Detroit plans to activate Magglio Ordonez from the disabled list today.

The outfielder has been out since May 10 because of weakness in his surgically repaired right ankle. He has been rehabbing with Triple-A Toledo.

The Tigers will send right-handed reliever Enrique Gonzalez to Toledo.

PADRES: San Diego is expected to place starting right-handed pitchers Aaron Harang and Dustin Moseley on the 15-day disabled list within the next two days.

Harang has been bothered by a bruise in his foot since last week. Moseley, slightly dislocated his left shoulder while batting in his last start on Wednesday against Colorado.

ASTROS: Right fielder Hunter Pence was out of the lineup against the Atlanta Braves because of tightness in his lower back.

Pence has the longest current hitting streak in the majors at a career-best 22 games.

ATHLETICS: Brett Anderson will meet with noted orthopedist Dr. James Andrews today.

Anderson was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, and an MRI exam performed by team orthopedist Dr. Jon Dickinson couldn’t identify the injury, so the team wanted a second opinion.

Anderson, a 23-year-old southpaw, has allowed 14 earned runs in 101/3 innings over his last two starts, both losses. He is 3-6 with a 4.00 ERA.

CARDINALS: St. Louis purchased the contract of outfielder Andrew Brown from Triple-A Memphis put Allen Craig on the 15-day disabled list with a bruised right knee.

ORIOLES: Baltimore intends to lighten the workload of prized rookie starter Zach Britton in an effort to extend his availability into September.

Manager Buck Showalter said he’ll move the left-hander back this week, from Tuesday to either Friday or Saturday.
