KITTERY — A Coast Guard cutter based at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in southern Maine is getting a new commander.

The Coast Guard will hold a change-of-command ceremony Thursday aboard the 270-foot Tahoma, which is moored at the shipyard in Kittery.

Cmdr. Christopher Mooradian of Portland will assume the top spot from Cmdr. Jim Spotts, who is being reassigned.

During Spotts’ tenure, the Tahoma was deployed to Haiti following the 2010 devastating earthquake. In deployments to the Caribbean and off Florida, it seized more than 3,300 pounds of cocaine and nearly 8,000 pounds of marijuana, while also rescuing more than 200 immigrants from vessels that weren’t seaworthy.
