AUGUSTA — Maine Community College System President John Fitzsimmons will announce the nominee for a new president of Southern Maine Community College in South Portland.

Fitzsimmons is to make his announcement to the system Board of Trustees when it meets today in Augusta.

Southern Maine Community College President James Ortiz will retire at the end of July. Ortiz has been campus president since February 2002.

The board will also vote to accept a number of gifts to MCCS, approve amendments to several system-wide policies, authorize the implementation of four new academic offerings and elect officers for the coming year.
