LITCHFIELD — A local man is facing numerous charges after allegedly stealing three car transmissions and hiding them in the woods.

Bradley W. Field, 23, is charged with felony theft, criminal trespass and violating conditions of release, Maine State Police Trooper Jason Madore said.

Field’s neighbor called police after finding three transmissions hidden in the woods on his property.

“He said Bradley had been over to his house about 15 minutes earlier asking for a ride to Lewiston,” Madore said.

Madore began driving toward Field’s home.

“I saw him walking on the side of the road with a backpack,” Madore said. “He was sweaty and dirty and greasy.”

Madore said Field initially denied any wrongdoing but, when questioned, admitted he had broken into a Richmond Road building owned by Franklin Lane and taken the transmissions and copper piping.

“In the backpack he had on, he had two big spools of copper wiring,” Madore said.

Madore said Field has numerous burglary and theft charges in his background.

“He had only been out of jail about a week,” Madore said.

There have been a number of metal thefts within a mile or so of Field’s Richmond Road home, Madore said.

“I’m sure once this message gets out, more people will call,” he said.

The investigation is ongoing, Madore said. Additional charges are possible.

“We’re obviously looking for further information,” he said.

Madore asked anyone who believes they may have been a victim to call state police at 624-7076.
