PORTLAND — A five-run seventh inning meant a 7-4 Portland Sea Dogs victory over Binghamton Monday night, before 5,059 at Hadlock Field.

Ryan Khoury and Will Middlebrooks highlighted the inning – Khoury with his 13-pitch at-bat that concluded with an RBI double, and Middlebrooks who clubbed his 11th home run, a two-run shot over three layers of signage in center field.

Middlebrooks, who also doubled in the first, finished with a four-RBI night.

“This kid always seems to do something,” Sea Dogs Manager Kevin Boles said. “He seems to get better and better. We are thrilled with the way this guy is coming along.”

The Sea Dogs’ bullpen won this game, with Cesar Cabral (2-4), freshly called-up Charle Rosario and Blake Maxwell finishing.

Rosario gave up two unearned runs with two outs in the ninth, but then Maxwell got his ninth save with one pitch.

The game began with two top pitching prospects surviving early trouble.

Sea Dogs right-hander Alex Wilson gave up two runs in the second. Wilson allowed a season-high nine hits, but walked none and struck out six over 52/3 innings.

“I couldn’t really get the ball in and gave up a lot of hits,” Wilson said. “But the change-up was really good for me tonight. Got me out of a few jams.”

Harvey was the New York Mets’ first-round draft pick last year out of the University of North Carolina. He was in his fourth Double-A game Monday, after an 8-2 record in Class A.

Two weeks ago, Portland popped Harvey for seven runs on six hits, and Monday did not start well. A first-inning walk to Khoury and back-to-back doubles by Chih-Hsien Chiang and Middlebrooks gave the Sea Dogs a 2-0 lead.

Both starters turned it over to the bullpens with the score 2-2.

Khoury, who unsuccessfully tried to bunt twice, kept fouling off pitches before doubling off the left-field wall. Middlebrooks’ homer made it 6-2. Portland added a run on two more hits and another Mets error.
