PORTLAND – July has gone into the record books as a hot one in Portland.

The National Weather Service says last month was not only as the warmest July on record at the Portland International Jetport, but also the warmest single month ever since records began being kept at the airport in 1940.

For the month, the average temperature was 72.7, which was 3.6 degrees above normal. That broke the previous monthly record of 72.4 degrees set in July 1994. July 2010 was the third-warmest month on record.

The temperature reached 100 degrees on July 22, the first time in 35 years the city hit the 100-degree mark.
