PORTLAND — The East Bayside community arts organization Mayo Street Arts has received a $10,000 grant from the Virginia Somers Hodgkins Foundation for its children’s puppet workshop program.

The puppet workshop, which began in January, encourages children to write scripts, create their own puppets and perform puppet shows. The 10-week program is free for children from the neighborhood.

The new funding will allow Mayo Street to add dance and music to the program, and invite more artists to work with the children.
