GLENDALE, Ariz. — The Phoenix Coyotes trimmed their preseason roster to 26 today by sending five players to the Portland Pirates.
Sent to the Pirates were forwards Andy Miele, Viktor Tikhonov and Marc-Antoine Pouliot plus defensemen Maxim Goncharov and Chris Summers.
Miele was signed by the Coyotes last year after he won the Hobey Baker award as college hockey’s top player at Miami (Ohio) University.
Tikhonov and Summers both are former first-round draft picks of Phoenix while Pouliot was a former first-round choice of Edmonton.
The Pirates play an exhibition game at 1 p.m. Sunday against the Manchester Monarchs at the Cumberland County Civic Center.
