PORTLAND – Spencer Cooke scored three touchdowns Saturday to lead undefeated Cheverus to a 56-0 victory against winless Biddeford in a Western Class A football game at Boulos Stadium.

Cooke added two touchdowns in the second quarter, on a 56-yard punt return and a 7-yard run. Brent Green also scored twice, on runs of 29 and 1 yard, giving the Stags a 42-0 halftime lead against the Tigers (0-6).

Cheverus added two touchdowns in the fourth quarter by Will Hilton, on runs of 8 and 94 yards.

MT. DESERT ISLAND 30, NOKOMIS 26: Elias Burne went 53 yards with a pass from Donny Hersom for the go-ahead touchdown, and the Trojans (3-3) beat the Warriors (0-6) at Newport.

“That surprised me as much as everybody else. I usually don’t get thrown the ball, but when I do I try to make it worth it,” Burne said. “I give Sean Harding all the credit on that one. He made the amazing block that let me score that touchdown.”

Jayson Burke followed Burne’s touchdown catch with a 2-point conversion run, and MDI had a 23-20 lead. After forcing the Warriors to punt, MDI went on an eight-play, 55-yard scoring drive. This time Burne went in from the 1, and after Cameron Crawford’s kick the score was 30-20.

That final scoring drive was kept alive when the Trojans converted a fourth-and-inches run. MDI was 5 of 5 on fourth down.

Burne led the Trojans with 144 yards on 27 carries. Burke added 117 yards on 19 runs. Burne scored on runs of 6 and 2 yards in the first quarter. In between, Austin Chipman of Nokomis returned a kickoff 79 yards for a score, and Mt. Desert led 15-8 after the first quarter.

OLD ORCHARD BEACH 23, POLAND 0: Jason Regis ran for two touchdowns to lead the Seagulls (1-5) over the Knights (2-4) at Old Orchard Beach.

Taylor Rancourt added a fumble recovery return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
