Oct. 15: Spaulding Memorial Library’s Push Back the Stacks Program will present a rope-making workshop with Sebago resident Phil Lowe. Participants will learn about rope uses today and techniques for making rope. Everyone will make rope together and will take a piece of rope home. Free fun for all ages. This workshop is at 2 p.m. at the library in Sebago on Route 114. For more information, call 787-2321.
Oct. 15: The Gray/New Gloucester Lions will join the New Gloucester Community Fair at the fairgrounds on Bald Hill Road for their 8th Annual Car Show. Registration is 8-11 a.m., $5 per vehicle. Awards ceremony is at 2 p.m. The show features 19 trophy classes plus Best of Show, People’s Choice and a Fair Judges Award. Also featured for show participants are an all-day raffle, a silent auction and a 50/50 drawing. Lots to see and do (and eat) at the fair and lots of beautiful cars on display.
Oct. 15: From 6-11 p.m. more than 350 people will gather at Riding To The Top’s Therapeutic Riding Center in Windham to enjoy mouthwatering barbecue, dancing and fun contests for a great cause. RTT’s 13,000 square-foot, heated indoor arena is magically transformed by a group of talented staff and volunteers for this special event known as the Triple B for boots, band and barbecue, which, to date, has raised over $215,000 for rider scholarships, programs and horse care. The Triple B features barbecue from Whole Foods Market and DennyMike’s Sauces & Rubs, the music of Bonnie Edwards and the Practical Cats and a surprise emcee from The Wolf 99.9. Auctioneer Elizabeth Holmstrom returns to call the unique mission-based auction where everyone leaves a winner! This year’s raffle prizes include a Thos. Moser rocker, Sugarloaf ski tickets and a weekend condo and a Bryony Brett stained glass piece. Limited seating still available. A table of eight is $400 and individual tickets are $50. Tuesday, Oct. 18: The Southern Maine Agency on Aging (SMAA) will offer Medicare seminars and counseling for the Lakes Region at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church at 919 Roosevelt Trail, Windham. A “Welcome to Medicare” seminar is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon. Wednesday, Oct. 19: A free class from the Hannaford Healthy Living Program will be offered 5:30 to 7 p.m., at the Crooked River Adult Ed Center on Route 11 in Casco. The Healthier Holiday Baking class includes a light meal, handouts, and recipes. Experience the pleasure of giving your friends and family holiday treats that are actually good for them. Saturday, Oct. 22: Windham Hill UCC sponsors an electronic recycling event 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Windham Mall next to Friendly’s. Friday, Oct. 28: The Bridgton Art Guild will host a Costume Ball at the old Bridgton Town Hall starting at 7 p.m. The theme is “Dancing and Dessert” and live dance music will be provided by Skylark Jazz Ensemble, with intervals of recorded rock music. Desserts and soft drinks will be included with the price of admission. Jeff Toole, a long time exhibiting artist and his wife, Vicki, of Lake Region Caterers will host the cash bar offering beer and wine, with all proceeds going to the Guild’s Capital Campaign. While costumes are optional, it is hoped that lots of folks will put their creative and youthful spirits to task and join the Bridgton Art Guild to celebrate this spooky time of year!! Tickets are available at Gallery 302 for $10/person prior to the event, and $12/person at the door. Prizes will be given in various categories. Gallery 302 is located at 112 Main Street in Bridgton.
Thursday, Nov. 3: The Maine Jazz Band will present a big-band jazz concert, featuring swing, Latin, blues and pop at 7 p.m. in the Harold Alfond Auditorium at Saint Joseph’s College, 278 Whites Bridge Road, Standish. Admission is free and open to everyone. Music to include legendary jazz impressions made famous by Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Richard Rodgers (‘My Funny Valentine’), lyrical great Johnny Mercer (‘Summer Wind’), and much more.
