PORTLAND — Members of the Maine State Nurses Association/National Nurses United plan to support the Occupy Maine protesters in Portland.

The nurses union has supported protesters in other cities across the country associated with the Occupy Wall Street movement. In some of the encampments, the nurses have established first-aid stations.

The nurses group in Maine says it wants to show solidarity with the protesters and also will be donating supplies and giving a presentation on basic first aid as winter approaches.

The group plans a news conference about its support for the protesters at noon Thursday in Monument Square.

The Maine State Nurses Association/National Nurses United represents more than 2,000 nurses in the state and nationally represents 150,000 registered nurses, the group said.
