Until Nov. 14: American Legion Bingo takes place every Monday night at the Windham Veterans Center behind Big Lots on Route 302 (795 Roosevelt Trail) in Windham. Oct. 21-30: Schoolhouse Arts Center at Sebago Lake will hold its third annual Haunted Schoolhouse. Continuous tours of the “haunted” Schoolhouse run from 6-9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, from 5-8 p.m. on Sundays. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for kids 12 and under. Not recommended for very young children. There will be a “safe” room for small children. Don’t miss it! Thrills, chills and laughs! Friday, Oct. 28: The Bridgton Art Guild will host a Costume Ball at the old Bridgton Town Hall starting at 7 p.m. The theme is “Dancing and Dessert” and live dance music will be provided by Skylark Jazz Ensemble, with intervals of recorded rock music. Desserts and soft drinks will be included with the price of admission. Jeff Toole, a long time exhibiting artist and his wife, Vicki, of Lake Region Caterers will host the cash bar offering beer and wine, with all proceeds going to the Guild’s Capital Campaign. While costumes are optional, it is hoped that lots of folks will put their creative and youthful spirits to task and join the Bridgton Art Guild to celebrate this spooky time of year! Tickets are available at Gallery 302 for $10/person prior to the event, and $12/person at the door. Prizes will be given in various categories. Gallery 302 is located at 112 Main Street in Bridgton.
Saturday, Oct. 29: Residents can drop off unused prescription drugs at the Windham Public Safety Building from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The service is free, anonymous and hosted by the Windham Police Department and Drug Enforcement Administration.
Tuesday, Nov. 1: Windham’s Monthly Grief Support meeting, sponsored by VNA Home Health & Hospice, will be offering an open discussion on: “We gather together…can we feel thankful while we grieve?” from 6–7:30 p.m. at North Windham Union Church, 723 Roosevelt Trail, Windham. Nov. 1: The Southern Maine Agency on Aging (SMAA) will offer a Medicare seminar and counseling for the Lakes Region at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church at 919 Roosevelt Trail, Windham. A “Welcome to Medicare” seminar is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon. There will be one-on-one counseling with volunteer Medicare advocates on the 1st and every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the Open Enrollment Period, Oct. 15-Dec. 7. Thursday, Nov. 3: A jazz concert featuring the Maine Jazz Band will be held at Saint Joseph’s College at 7 p.m., at the Viola George Auditorium in Harold Alfond Hall. The band, which will feature 15 musicians including a female vocalist, will play swing, Latin, blues and pop. The music will include legendary jazz impressions made famous by Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Richard Rodgers and Johnny Mercer. The concert is free and open to the public. FMI, 893-7723.
Saturday, Nov. 5: Join supporters of the Rufus Porter Museum at the Black Horse Tavern (8 Portland Road, Bridgton) anytime between 4-9:30 p.m. for Rufus Porter Museum Night. This popular restaurant (voted one of the top 10 best restaurants in southern Maine) has made a generous offer to donate a portion of the evening’s profit to the museum. This will help the Museum’s effort to relocate to the heart of downtown Bridgton. Come in and say, “Rufus Porter sent us.” FMI, 647-3724.
Nov. 5: Sebago’s Spaulding Memorial Library will be holding a Punkin Chunkin from 1-3 p.m. (Rain date Nov. 6). It will be held at the lower ball field behind the Sebago Elementary School. Drive down the Marina Road, across from the Fire Station for parking next to the field. There will be pumpkins and apples and giant slingshots as well as cider and a 50-50 raffle. So come have fun and “watch ‘em fly.”
Nov. 11-20: Windham High School presents “The Wizard of Oz” Nov. 11, 12, 18 and 19 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 13 and 20 at 4 p.m. (Sunday matinees). Enjoy the live Broadway-style version with direction by Rob Juergens, music direction by Dr. Richard Nickerson and choreography by Venessa Beyland.
