ORONO — Brian Flynn scored with 2:10 left in overtime to give the University of Maine hockey team a 5-4 win over Providence tonight at Alfond Arena.

Flynn picked up a loose puck that banked off his skate in front of the Friar’s goal and beat Alex Beaudry to end the game.

Joey Diamond scored two goals for the Black Bears, while Mike Cornell and Kyle Beattie also scored for Maine. Spencer Abbott’s apparent goal with six minutes left in regulation, which would have given Maine a 5-4 lead, was waved off after video review by the officials.

Chris Rooney, Rob Maloney, Steven Shamanski and Stefan Demopoulos scored for the Friars.

Beaudry made 24 saves for the Friars (2-2-1, 2-1 Hockey East), while Martin Ouellette made 23 saves for the Black Bears (2-2-1, 2-1).

The series continues at 7 p.m. Saturday at Alfond Arena.
