Girls’ Night Out fundraiser

A dozen local vendors will gather Thursday night for a Girls’ Night Out Benefit to raise money for the Maine Children’s Cancer Program. 

The event, held from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Saco Elks Lodge. 68 Ocean Park Rd, will feature vendors such as Silpada jewelry and gifts from Tastefully Simple.

There will be a free massages and manicures, along with music, appetizers and a cash bar.

Program on penny rugs

Elizabeth Bullen, former historian of the Raymond-Casco Historical Society, will present a  program on making penny rugs at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Raymond Public Safety Building, 1443 Roosevelt Trail.

There will be a short business meeting following the program. Refreshments will be served.

Garden Club annual meeting

The Seacoast Garden Club of the Kennebunks and Arundel will hold its annual open meeting at 10 a.m. Nov. 14 at the community house on Temple Street in Kennebunkport.

Nancy Stedman, a master gardener and owner of Little River Flower Farm in Buxton, will present a program about growing a cutting garden.

She has been growing cut flowers for weddings and special events for more than 15 years.

A Locks of Love donation event will be held at Kennebunk High School from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday.

Hair and money donations are very much appreciated.

There will be an option of three different lengths to choose from to donate: 4-6 inches, 6-8 inches or 8-12 inches.

With these hair donations, men’s, kids’ and women’s wigs will be made for people who have lost hair because of medical reasons.

Russian tea party Saturday

Marina Forbes, a local artist and educator, will host a traditional Russian tea party at 10 a.m. Saturday at the York Art Association Gallery, 394 York St.

Forbes will give a talk about her annual cultural tour to Russia. She is a native of St. Petersburg and a traditional Russian artist, licensed by the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg.

Forbes offers between 75 and 100 lectures, workshops and presentations each year on Russian arts and culture. The cost is free.

Kids Book Sale at library

Curtis Friends is holding its sixth annual Kids Book Sale from 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at Curtis Memorial Library on Pleasant Street.

The sale features reading material for preschool through middle-school-age children.

The cost will be 50 cents to $1 for all books, tapes, and DVDs.

Genealogy Society talk

The Pejepscot Genealogy Society will hold its monthly meeting at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Curtis Memorial Library’s Morrell Meeting Room.

The guest speaker will be Eugene Vogt, an amateur genealogist from Woburn, Mass., who is giving a talk about his search for his ancestors.

Vogt also has a summer home in Newcastle.
