TOPSHAM

A Topsham police cruiser was damaged after a man who police had taken into custody following a domestic violence incident allegedly kicked out the window Monday afternoon.

According to Lt. Christopher Lewis, Terry Couture, 27, of Lewiston Road was arrested Monday at 4:40 p.m. at his home and charged with domestic violence assault. Couture also was charged with criminal mischief, Lewis said, after he kicked one of the cruiser windows, causing the window to pop out of the door frame while officers on scene were talking to others involved in the incident.

Due to the damaged patrol cruiser, police had to request another cruiser with a protective screen to transport Couture. Lewis said the damage to the window will cost an estimated $900 to repair.

Because of his apparent level of intoxication, Lewis said Couture was taken to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick for an evaluation. When medically cleared, he was transported to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset.
