Walker Memorial Library is holding its annual holiday open house from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at 800 Main St.

The event will feature a traditional Victorian Christmas tree, food and holiday music from the Chopin Club.

Library book sale

The North Gorham Public Library will hold a book sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the library, 2 Standish Neck Road.

The sale will feature other gift items and baked goods.

The Women’s Guild of the North Gorham UCC Church will have a selection of white elephant items for sale.

Safe Passage will hold its annual open house from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at 81 Bridge St.

Jess Britt, a long-term volunteer for Safe Passage, will give a presentation. There will also be an exhibit of winning calendar photos and holiday gifts.

Historical Society meeting

The Scarborough Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at 647 Route 1.

Jara Goodrich, a harpist and faculty member of the University of Southern Maine’s School of Music, will perform Christmas songs after the business meeting.

Tree lighting

The Cumberland/North Yarmouth Lions Club is hosting its annual Christmas tree lighting at 6.30 tonight in Cumberland Center.

Students from Greeley High School will sing Christmas songs, and Santa is expected to arrive around 6:45 p.m.

Holiday music show

Students at the Mast Landing School will sing holiday music at the next meeting of the Freeport Woman’s Club at 1 p.m. Friday at the Freeport Community Library.

There will be refreshments after the program.

Publishing online program

Freeport Creative Arts is offering a program, “The Art and Craft of Publishing Online,” at 7 tonight at the Freeport Community Center, 53 Depot St.

Mark Diehl, Josh Christie and Emma Bouthillette will lead a discussion and talk about how they are using the Web to attain goals, entertain readers and make money.

Diehl is the author of “Vida Nocturna.” Christie is a book buyer and event planner at Sherman’s Books and Stationery in Camden. He also blogs about books and craft beer at BrewsAndBooks.com.

Bouthillette is a student in University of Southern Maine’s graduate program for creative writing and a former reporter for The Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram. She recently started a blog, laidoffandtakingitoff.wordpress.com.
