BRUNSWICK — Eric Stuckey scored from a goalmouth scramble with 2:12 left in regulation to lift Mt. Ararat High School to a 2-1 ice hockey win over Westbrook.
Stuckey converted a Logan Magwire feed to help the Eagles in their season opener. Mt. Ararat is scheduled to visit Camden Hills on Wednesday.
The Eagles trailed 1-0 going into the final period. “We had a lot of scoring chances, 27 in the third period, but we just have trouble scoring goals,” said first-year coach Mike Bishop, who praised the defensive work turned in by Bru Abreu and goaltender Zach O’Connor.
A Jeremy Williams (Ben Bishop) breakaway with five minutes left tied the game up at 1-1.
Zach Papsadora scored three goals as the host Rams downed the Dragons in the Eastern A opener for both teams on Saturday.
“We had our chances, but their goalie (Rye Powell, 22 saves) made three or four grade-A stops,” said Brunswick (0-1) coach Mike Routhier, whose team is slated to host Maranacook/ Winthrop/Hall- Dale on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
Dylan Towle scored on the power play for Brunswick’s only goal, with Tyler Niven picking up an assist. Goaltender Jason Blier had 27 saves.
